Prophet's Mosque

Al-Masjid an-Nabawi is one of the three mosques that our Master Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, has permitted to travel to. It was established by the Noble Prophet and built with his Muslim companions, as it was the center of the first call in addition to the beacon from which the light of Islam and its message radiated.

It is the second holiest place of worship for Muslims, and comes after the Grand Mosque in the holy city of Mecca, and it is located in Medina in western Saudi Arabia.

Landmarks of the Prophet's Mosque

Because of the distinguished position of the Prophet’s Mosque as the mosque of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which he built himself, it has a number of advantages that made it superior. For this reason, the Prophet’s Mosque has features that distinguish it from other mosques.

Among the features of the Prophet's Mosque are:

The Holy Kindergarten.

The Prophet's pulpit.

The Prophet's Chamber.

The niches of the Prophet's Mosque.

The southern wall of the mosque.

It is part of the features of the Prophet's Mosque in brief, as it will be dealt with in more detail during the following lines for the reader to become familiar with it.

The southern wall of the Prophet's Mosque:

The southern wall of the Prophet's Mosque is one of its features, which extends from Bab al-Sallab in the west to Bab al-Baqi' in the east.

It is the same southern wall related to the expansion of Othman bin Affan to the mosque, as all the expansions that came later on to the Prophet’s Mosque extended in all directions except the southern side.

We will notice that along the southern wall were inscriptions on four lines, where the first, second and third lines were written in golden scripts of Quranic verses, while the fourth line contained the names of the Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace).

While the southern wall of the mosque in the era of the Prophet is now represented by a wall of brass, which extends from the honorable cabin of the Prophet in the east to the end of the mosque in the west.

The Ottoman mihrab in the Prophet’s Mosque:

Among the landmarks of the Noble Prophet’s Mosque is the southern wall of the current mosque, which is considered the place of prayer of Othman bin Affan (may God be pleased with him), an imam of Muslims.

This place is also the place of the imam’s prayer hall at the present time, where it was written on the right side of the mihrab: The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: The most honorable of creation is Muhammad (may God bless him and grant him peace) and all his family and companions.

In Vika, you will notice that it is written on the left side of the mihrab: The Messenger of God (may God bless him and grant him peace) said: (Establish your rows, for you line up in the ranks of the angels, align between the shoulders and close the gaps, and lean in the hands of your brothers, and do not leave the gaps of Satan. And whoever cuts a line, God the Most High will cut him off.

The pulpit of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace:

And the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said about the pulpit: (Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit is on my basin).

We find that our master Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, was at first addressing a palm tree trunk, and then the pulpit was made for him, so he was preaching on it, as Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Jaber: From the Ansar or a man: O Messenger of God, shall we not make for you a pulpit? He said: If you wish. So they made a pulpit for him. When it was Friday, he was pushed to the pulpit, and the palm tree shouted the boy’s shout. Then the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, came down and joined him in the moaning of the slumbering boy. He said: She was crying over what she heard from the remembrance at that time.

From the severity of the sanctity of this pulpit, we note that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is the sin of the one who swears by him a great liar.

The Holy Kindergarten:

Among the important landmarks in the Prophet’s Mosque is the honorable Rawda, whose location in the mosque is located between the pulpit and the Prophet’s room, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him.

And we will find that from the merits of the honorable kindergarten is what Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Abu Hurairah that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: (Between my house and my pulpit is a kindergarten from the gardens of Paradise and my pulpit is on my basin). Haram al-Sharif carpets.

The Suleimani mihrab in the Prophet’s Mosque:

It is a modern mihrab to the right of the one standing in the Prophet’s mihrab at the third cylinder west of the Prophet’s pulpit. The Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent ordered its construction. Sheikh Tughan built it and made it to pray in the imam of the Hanifa. Praying behind one imam in the Ottoman mihrab at the beginning of the Saudi era.

Holy Chamber:

This room is one of the prominent landmarks in the Prophet's Mosque, as it is the room of Lady Aisha, may God be pleased with her, in which Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, was buried after his death.

After that, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq was buried there in the year 13 AH, when he had recommended that Lady Aisha be buried next to the Messenger of God, so when he died he dug for him and placed his head on the shoulders of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and after them Umar ibn al-Khattab was buried there in the year 24 AH. Besides the friend, as he was asking Aisha's permission to do so, and she gave him permission.

Well H:

Among the features of the Prophet’s Mosque is the well of Ha, which is one of the wells of Medina, which is owned by the companion Abu Talha Al-Ansari, and when the verse (You will not attain righteousness until you spend from what you love) was revealed, he gave it alms, as the Prophet Muhammad used to torture its water, and at the present time It is located inside the Prophet's Mosque, from the north side, close to King Fahd Gate.

green dome:

The Green Dome is one of the most important and prominent features of the Prophet’s Mosque, where the Mamluk Sultan Al-Mansur Qalawun Al-Salihi ordered that it be built, so that it would be above the honorable Prophet’s Chamber, and in it there is the tomb of our master Muhammad bin Abdullah, peace be upon him, and his companions Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq and Omar bin Al-Khattab.

The Prophet's Mosque Library:

That library was established in the year 1352 AH corresponding to 1933, and that was through a proposal from the Director of Endowments in Medina at that time, Obaid Madani, and Mr. Ahmed Yassin Al-Khiari was the first director of the library.

In the library of the Prophet’s Mosque there are a number of books that date back to the endowment of the Prophet’s Mosque before the date of the establishment of the library, for example the library of Sheikh Muhammad al-Aziz al-Wazir, which was stopped in the year 1320 AH.

The author of the book “Arab Book Treasures” revealed that the library of the Prophet’s Mosque was built before the fire of the Prophet’s Mosque on 13 Ramadan in 886 AH, during which the treasuries of the Qur’an and books were burnt.

Currently, the library is located inside the Prophet's Mosque, where all visitors are allowed to benefit from the library in addition to the services provided in it.
