Al-Safa and Al-Marwa are two mountains located to the east of the Grand Mosque, and they are famous symbols of the rite of Sa’y

They are located in the center of Mecca, surrounded by the homes of the people of Mecca, including “ Dar Al-Arqam and the House of Al-Sa’ib bin Abi Al-Saib Al-A’idhi . ” In the past, Jabal al-Safa was connected to Mount Abu Qubais, while al-Marwa was connected to Jabal Qaqi’an, but in the Saudi expansion in 1375 AH, Jabal al-Safa was cut off. Al-Safa from its origin in the mountain of Abu Qubais, and we notice that it remained on some rocks at the end of it, a sign of the location of Al-Mash’ar, and also in Mount Al-Marwah

The beginning of the quest between Al-Safa and Al-Marwa in the time of the Prophet Ibrahim

Mrs. Hagar was seeking water for her son, the Prophet Ismail, peace be upon him, by climbing Mount Al-Safa and then descending until she reached Mount Al-Marwah, and she repeated that seven times, until the water was found at the place of Zamzam, so she drank and nursed her son

 And when Islam came, it became among the rituals of Hajj and Umrah that the pilgrim performs, and the road that connects Mount Al-Safa and Mount Al-Marwah is called “ Masaa ’ ,” or it is also called the place of Sa’y

Currently, the quest is inside the Grand Mosque, and this is due to the Saudi expansion that occurred in 1375 AH, and the distance between each of Safa and Jabal al-Marwah is approximately 394.5 meters, while the average total number of runs for the quest is 2761.5 meters, while we will find that the width of the quest is about 40 meters, while The number of its floors is four floors and comes with a total area that may exceed 87 thousand square meters

How to go between Safa and Marwa

And before going to perform the rituals of Hajj and Umrah, you must know how to go between Safa and Mount Al-Marwah. When you ascend Mount Al-Safa, you should rejoice and grow taller, while receiving the honorable Kaaba, and then perform the prayer on our master Muhammad - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family - , and after that pray for yourself and for those you love and for everyone with you. With everything that God explains to your chest  The pilgrim begins the runs of the saa’i, and it is a normal journey, starting from Safa to Marwa, in the path prepared for this, so that he observes the rules of order and avoids harm This acceleration in walking is called “ jogging ” and this is only for men, not women, but in the case when you reach Marwa, you must stand on it a little and do the takbeer and cheers while praying for the Prophet  - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family - so that you make the Kaaba towards your face and perform the supplication with all Whatever you want, this will be one step The seven cycles are the same as the previous steps, and that is with reverence and sincerity in addition to remembrance and forgiveness, and what was mentioned about our master Muhammad - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family - must be repeated : I do .”

And when you finish the seven circuits of saa’i, you may have finished performing the Umrah that you intended while entering Ihram, and then you have to dissolve, and that is by shaving your head with a razor, or by cutting all or part of your hair, but shaving is better for men, but it is forbidden for women. Women can cut their hair and take an inch-sized amount And by means of that shaving or shortening the hair, here the Muhrim is freed from the Ihram of Umrah, whether a man or a woman, and we find that it is permissible for him to do things that are forbidden to him, so he can wear whatever he wants, in addition to enjoying all the lawful and good things until the time for Ihram comes with Hajj and the determination to go to Arafat and Mona

Dua for quest between Safa and Marwa

There are a number of supplications that a pilgrim makes when performing Sa’y, including :

He asks his Lord that God will forgive him his sins , admit him to Paradise, and save him from Hellfire .

He asks God for forgiveness and mercy for him and his parents .

We find that running on Mount Al-Safa, as well as at Al-Marwah and standing in Arafat, and in Muzdalifah there are no specific supplications, but it is prescribed for the believer to remember God, and there is no specific limit, so he remembers God by saying : Over all things, glory be to God, praise be to God, there is no god but God, God is great, and there is no might or power except with God, Glory be to God and praise be to Him, Glory be to God the Great .

Conditions of Sa’y between Safa and Marwa

And there are a number of conditions specific to the quest between the two mountains, which is that it be seven circuits in the quest, and this is the road that extends between Safa and Marwa - and this is done as the Messenger of God - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - and also for the Almighty ’s saying : “ Take your rituals from me. ” » , in the case if he does saa’i outside the saa’i, then this is not valid

It is also required for the pilgrim to start with Safa, and the conclusion is with Al Marwa, and his quest from Al Safa to Al Marwa is considered one circuit, and after that from Al Marwa to Al Safa, and this is considered another circuit, and it remains like this so that he completes seven circuits, the last of which is Al Marwa There are some notes that the pilgrim must know before going to perform the rites of Hajj and Umrah, especially the pilgrimage between Safa and Mount Marwa, and they are :-  In the case of starting with the Marwa before Al-Safa, this is not considered a round, and he must start the count from Al-Safa

 Some scholars have also stipulated that the saa’i is not considered valid until after the circumambulation

It is permissible to delay the saa’i, and it is not required to continue the tawaf between it and the tawaf

Purification is not required for striving, but it is considered better

Sa'i between Safa and Marwa for a menstruating woman

We find that it is permissible for a menstruating woman to perform the sa’y between al-Safa and al-Marwah, and the reason for this is that purity is not required in the saa’i, as our Prophet Muhammad - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - said to Aisha - may God be pleased with her : “ Then fulfill what the pilgrim will do except not to circumambulate the House ” narrated by Al-Bukhari

For this reason, in the event that a woman menstruates after circumambulating the House, she can complete her quest, and there is no objection to her, but the circumambulation around the Kaaba is a condition of purity

Finally, the quest is one of the basic pillars in performing the rites of Hajj. Therefore, Hajj and Umrah are not completed except in all of them. In the case of leaving it or leaving some of it, even if the pilgrims have an excuse to return to complete it

Also, in case of doubt during tawaf and saa’i with regard to the number of circuits, either it is during the saa’i, or it is after it. Runs so that he completes the rest of the quest

But in the case of doubt after completing the saa’i, then it does not matter, according to what Imam al-Nawawi said in the book “al - Majmoo ’”: “ If he is uncertain about the number of tawaf or saa’i, he must take the lesser, and if he thinks it most likely, he must take the less certain. Doubt while he is in circumambulation, but if he doubts after he has finished, he does not have to do anything .”
