Work began on the construction of the Makkah Museum Palace in the year 1365 AH, corresponding to 1946 AD, and this came by a royal order from King Abdul Aziz.

The construction of this palace took about seven years, the work of it was completed in 1372 AH 1952, and it was used for a period of time as a hospitality palace, and then it was granted in 1378 AH to the Ministry of Education.

At that time, the Ministry of Education turned it into the headquarters of Al-Zahir Intermediate School, for this reason, it repurposed its rooms and halls into classrooms, and it was used as a school until 1398 AH. The architectural condition it was in previously since the beginning of its construction.

As for the area of ​​the Makkah Museum Palace, it is about 3425 square meters, which was distributed on a front yard of 1200 square meters, next to the main building of the palace and this is an area of ​​1000 square meters

 It also has a rear annex, which measures an area of ​​425 square meters, in relation to the rest of the spaces occupied by roads and corridors around the palace.

The agency hired the palace and considered it a museum of antiquities and heritage in Makkah Al Mukarramah, and all this in order to serve the heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to its history and civilization in general and Makkah Al Mukarramah in particular.

The halls of the Makkah Museum

The museum contains a number of halls and floors, and each hall has contents and matters related to it, and below we will review for you, the details of these halls in detail:

- On the ground floor of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Museum, which is a large hall, and in the middle there is a fountain, which is made of colored marble, where the dome of the palace is topped, and you will find it carried on 24 circular columns, while 12 columns on the ground floor are located in the upper floor.

While the halls overlook the hall in the museum, which were distributed as follows :

The halls that are on the right side are for displaying the landmarks of the Kingdom’s antiquities as well as the prehistoric antiquities of Makkah. First hall:

The first hall in the Makkah Museum of Antiquities and Saudi Heritage contains a set of pictures of the most prominent historical and archaeological landmarks and places that exist in the Kingdom. The Natural Environment Hall of Makkah Al-Mukarramah:

In the natural environment hall of Makkah Al-Mukarramah in the museum, only a side of the natural history as well as the geology of the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah are displayed.

This hall also contains a display of various inscriptions, which were written in the southern and northern Musnad pen, in addition to the Thamudic inscriptions.

 Hajj hall:

This hall is one of the very special and special halls in the museum due to its large area in addition to the grandeur of what is displayed in it.

This hall contains a number of the most sacred and spiritual documents in Islam, for example, “books for some ancient pilgrimage routes, as well as routes to the city of Mecca.”

It also contains pictures of the Kaaba as well as a plan, in addition to several models of a group of Hajj rituals, and there are rest areas for pilgrims since ancient times while they were on their way to Mecca to perform the Hajj.

 Islamic Art Hall:

Finally, the Islamic Art Hall, in which a number of selected collections of Islamic art are displayed, in addition to antiques, those dating back to the periods of the founding of the Islamic state.

In that hall there are a number of most personal items related to Islamic art, including, for example, “pots, jars, and inscriptions in ancient Islamic Arabic calligraphy.”
